The Trend

The Only Four Technical Tools You’ll Ever Need to Use

Any time you ignore technical analysis, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.

Especially true if you’re trying to book quick wins.

Not only does it allow you to exploit incredible bouts of fear and greed, but it gives you an opportunity to spot pivot points before most of the herd does.

Look at Activision Blizzard (ATVI) for example.

The only reason the stock pulled back was because Epic Games’ Fortnite and Bluehole’s Player Unkown Battlegrounds took away player and monetization from Activision’s Overwatch and Call of Duty games.

In short, ATVI pulled back on noise.

News such as this isn’t cause for long-term concerns with ATVI.  It was nothing more than a severe overreaction that sent a great stock from $78 to $64 because of a game.

We could tell fear had gotten out of hand based on simple technical analysis of fear and greed.  Look at the chart below.  Notice a few things.  One, in early April 2018, the stock plunged to its lower Bollinger Band (2,20).  As you can also see, each time the stock has done this, it’s pivoted higher not long after.

At the same time, MACD plunged to an unsustainable point.

Williams’ %R was under its 80-line, which is also unsustainable. And Relative Strength (RSI) pulled back to a historic low point. The moment, all four of these indicators aligned, we could tell fear was overdone. Not long after the stock would bounce from $54 to $70 a share.

Granted, this set up may not work 100% of the time.

But using it can help you get ahead of the herd, especially when fear becomes too much.

We could see this in Estee Lauder (EL), too in early May 2018.

After an earnings-based sell off from $147.50 to $132.50, it was easy to tell fear was out of hand here. Not only did it pullback under its lower Bollinger Band (2,20), RSI was deeply oversold under its 30-line, MACD was at a historic low, and Williams’ %R fell under its 70-line.

Not long after, the stock pivoted from its lows to nearly $137.

Again, if you’re ignoring technical analysis, you’re really missing out on same amazing returns.
